Spot Tedfox!

There isn’t much to talk about, other than the fact that the number of yukata wearing patrons were vastly outnumbered by “civilians”. The event itself was held over a few areas. The left and right wings were where the stalls and game booths were held, while the performances, originally supposed to be held over in the field was moved over to the hall due to the rain.

I didn’t pay too much attention to the merchandise stalls, since they weren’t selling otaku related stuff. Instead, me and my compatriots made a beeline for the food stalls. I had a curry Benton and takoyaki, which in my opinion should be given a Nobel Prize as the greatest delicacy mankind has ever witnessed. Just look at that photo, doesn’t that make you drool? I know I did ^^

Tedfox sama was there as well and we indulged in a long conversation like war buddies who have never been to a summer festival while commenting on how un-otakuish this was and we are better off confined in our rooms watching anime instead.  OH wait we knew each other through NS… well he could do with a better wardrobe in my opinion hurhur.  Didn’t hang around too long though, for any longer and we would have been deemed homo.

The main highlight has to be the performances event over at the hall, where they did the “dance around the drum” event for lack of a better term. I was tasked the unlucky job of photo-taking, which involves bumping into people and trampling on their toes just to ass insult to injury.  Curses!

Did I mention those kids were cute? Awwww (for the last time, I am not a pedophile!)
Whether I would make this event an annual affair is debatable for me since, there was hardly any otaku related stuff.  It was admittedly an eye-opener for someone like me who’s sans  for anime-related stuff, has never been exposed to Japanese culture, much less a Japanese festival!  Oh heck, you can count me in next year too.

The annual Char Fest organised by KKnM will be held on the 23rd August over at…. KKnM of course duh.

It will open an hour earlier for KknM members at 11am while us mortals will have to wait till 12 pm. You can check out the loot offered this year over here.

While it wasn’t Odex this time, they have become synonymous with anime piracy, so they get the blame.
Nope, this time it was Showgate inc.

A quick check on Animenewsnetwork came up with this

Japanese anime production and distribution company Toshiba Entertainment Inc. will be officially renamed Showgate Incorporated. The company was previously known as Amuse until 2003, making this the second time the company has undergone a name change in the past decade. Toshiba Entertainment has handled production for a wide variety of anime projects, including Genshiken, Noein and Shakugan no Shana.

No idea they did Shana as well.

Anyway, here’s the low down on the alleged “crackdown” so far.
According to sgcafe,Showgate inc has sent the much feared letter to at least one unfortunate fellow, needless to say, anger and chaos ensued. (ok that was an exaggeration)

Huh what Odex, Fengshui Girl FTW!

A quick read reveals that the individual has been offered a respite from this ONLY if he was not the offender in question. That about leaves the possibility that he still faces the possibility of a fine of a staggering 200,000 SGD! In short, no first warning this time round. He himself has admitted to downloading Devil May Cry, a spin-off from the hack n slash game from the same name.

While this ostensibly does not bode well for the anime fan, I am inclined to take a “well it’s sooner or later” stand.  That said, I am obviously dreading this turn of events.  Could this be the beginning of the mass exodus of otakus? Could we be wiped out? Stay tuned!

In other related news,  I was reading up on Danny Choo when I came upon one of the member news here.  Member Actar reported that several scenes depicting lesbian or gay in the latest episode of Zero no Tsukaima : Princess no Rondo was censored, namely the kissing scenes between Momo what’s her name and Louise.  I was stumped initially when I heard Zero no Tsukaima was being screened, but I should have known better, given the country’s strict laws with regards to gay. Heck, i shudder at what they did with Tiffiania freaking eyes (boobs). Note to Odex, if you are going to show any anime, make sure it’s compliant with the laws without having to censor! Konami has announced a special edition MGS4 edition featuring Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet! Fans rejoice!

Nah found this on kotaku posted by Chocograph on AU gamespot. Another indication of the immense potention user generated content can have on games.

We have all heard of web 2.0 and the impact it has made on the great WWW, but Game 2.0 a term  Phil Harrison, former Director for Sony Computer Entertainment coined, is just starting with the introduction of LittleBigPlanet, a community based game that allows players to create their own characters and levels from the ground up with a unique first of its kind content creation system which allows a myraid of items to be combined to form really neat objects.

Soul Calibur 4 with its robust character creation system is another example of what users can do when given free rein to express their creativity. We already have Hatsune Miku, Dante, Altair, Oneecharbara among a plethora of anime and game-related characters. Heck they even got Lucky Star, albeit that was a bit off the mark…*gross. All these within a mere week from the game’s release. I can’t wait to see what other creations gamers come up with in future.
