I’ve collected quite a big of nendoroids over the ages. In fact, I’ve toned down my purchases of 1/8 figurines drastically in favor of nendoroids. So I thought I start taking photos of them and posting them up. Â So let’s start off with one of my firsts. Suzumiya Haruhi.

3 interchangeable faces. 2 different arms for each side, and 6 different hands. 2 arm bands complete the list of parts. Skirt is detachable and optional

She’s supposed to come in 3 standard poses. One normal, one as the Boss of S.O.S., and one as Film Director. But as you can see, you can mix it anyway you want. (actually, I was just lazy when taking the photos)

A closer look at the 2 different arm bands. ( director and boss)

Â

My only grouse is the stand used to make Haruhi stand. It might look okay here. But the height is ridiculously hard to adjust. Mine didn’t fit very well, and it was hard to have Haruhi pose with different leg actions. It’s also quite fragile. Mine has cracks starting to appear. For most of my photos I actually used a stand provided from later generations of nendoroid.

Well…. we can’t end the review without a comparison with the 1/8 version from maxfactory. Personal preference? The 1/8 max factory version was very well done. But it’s not so easy to find 1/8 figurines that look nice. Some look terrible, even though I might have loved the character in the anime. Nendoroids will always have this cute factor to them

Here’s a look at the back of the box. Complete guide to the poses you can make. But like I said, it’s up to your imagination. Guess which nendoroid I will take photos of next.

Received this figurine from e2046 a long time ago, just couldn’t get down to blogging about it. Presenting Yuki Nagato in her witch costume with her guitar.

Not much difference in terms of packaging as compared to previous gathering packages. It comes in a cardboard box, stuff full with styrofoam to prevent damage to the figurine.

Much fewer stuff to assemble as compared to my previous Nagato figurine, only the head is separated from the main figure. The rest of the package is made up of stuff to beautify the general look of the figurine, such as the books.

Here’s a look at how the whole figurine looks. Once again, in comparison to the previous figurine, this sculpt as well as the pose suits yuki a lot more. Of course, she’s wearing her witch costume from her concert days. The extra books and cats are actually quite a nice touch to be honest, and really adds to the feel.

Personally though, I thought she looked terrible without the hat. So do keep it on. I’m not sure if this is because the face of yuki once again looks weird. While not as bad as the previous round, the chin and nose are still too sharp. (and this are just the more obvious points) Seams are terrible on the head/hair as well, although most of it will be covered by the hat.

One problem though, the hat somehow ended being very hard to balance. It stays there after you place it on, but try moving the figurine about, and it’s sure to drop again.

Otherwise though, the paint job is excellent. (any white specs are due to my dust filled room) One very obvious example are from the last 2 photos below. Look at the finger nails! (My lousy lighting and camera skills make it look slightly worse than it actually is )

Accessories

The books and cat are pretty simple accessories, although they do fit in to the whole scene fairly well. Both are hardy, and feels pretty accurate enough. To note is that the words on the book are stuck on as a sticker.

An extra blue guitar is provided, although you can’t replace the original with this blue one. (It’s stuck) I’ve placed it beside the haruhi guitar as a comparison. Obviously it’s a lousier “model”. However, the details are still very well done. Seemed like the strings are much more well done this time especially. The guitar also did not feel as fragile thankfully.

Thoughts

Overall, quite a nice figure to have, especially if you like Yuki in a witch costume playing the guitar. I just want to emphasis that the paint job is really lovely. And in a sense, the big hat does take away your attention from the poorer points of the figurine, such as the face.

Heee. Much more satisfied with this purchase than the previous one. No leaning problems this time, since it’s definitely very stable on the gigantic base.

Ordered from e2046, part of the first batch. The page itself has much more photos. Album of my photos are here.

Guess which figurine just arrived in the mail a few days back. (The photos didn’t turn out well. Mostly because this time round, I only had one light source, and yuki’s very sharp nose casts very bad shadows)

This is obviously a copy of the Yuki figurine that Bubba sculpted that I mentioned previously.

Like the previous e2046 gathering package that I bought, this one came in the exact same packaging. The outside is wrapped in 2 layers of bubble wrap. In the box, the figurine is surrounded by layers of styrofoam. Previously, the parts came in small ziplock plastic bags. This time, they came contained in just normal plastic bags (like your normal figurines) Surprisingly, the head and arm were not glued. (apparently because it might be fragile and damaged while broken, although I thought the padding was good enough)

Assembling the pieces together weren’t too bad. The arm fitted on easily enough, although the seam might be a tad more obvious than normal. The head was a tight fit, and required much force. However, the hole at the base for the figurine was not of suitable size at all, and required manual intervention.

Â

The painting of the figurine remained top notch in my opinion, (like most gathering pieces)Â Hopefully you can tell from the photos, even though the lighting made it quite bad.

E2046.com this time offered changeable tops using “magnetic technology”. The magnetic parts work well enough, and changing the tops were VERY easy.

It comes with a pink or white top, or you can leave it with the tubetop it comes painted with. Now this part has various problems. Firstly, the seam connecting the two pieces end up being horrible. Secondly, no matter which top you put on, you’ll ALWAYS see the tubetop. (the original had no tubetop, and came with a pink top) Thirdly, I don’t recall seeing an obvious nipple on the original. (not sure if it’s noticeable in the photos, but definitely is on the figurine itself)

E2046 staff like to ask which top people prefer. I’ll vote for the pink one, especially since it goes better with the bottom. (I kinda think the extra tops are well…. extra.)

Other bad points. The figurine does not balance well on the base. For mine, while both feet are flat on the base, the heels do not touch the base. (extra stress) And depending on how you tip it, mine ends up standing on the toes at times. I’m afraid it ends up tipping excessively forward. (although add in the point that I had problem getting it into the base, it becomes not a small thing anymore)

Others mentioned gaps between the hands and the body. Mine has the same gaps, but I don’t know what’s the problem there. I thought the original had the same gaps.

All in all, a very good quality figurine as usual. Although the impact isn’t as high as the haruhi bunny one. Thus some might find the cost a little prohibitive. (S$200)

Anyway, it’s going to stand proudly beside my haruhi figurine now.

I actually got this long ago, but I never quite got the chance to post it up. Anyway, thought I better do so quickly since my next figurine is going to ship soon. Danny Choo has muuuch better photos of it though

Anyway, obviously this figurine is Louie from Zero no Tsukaima. Tsundere Magician basically describes her. (I had to upload the photos to zooomr instead, the photos might load slow or not load at all. Try right click and open image in new page instead)

Figurine wise…. the hair is faded, the face is a little too sharp to be cute. Uh… doesn’t look like the photo on its box unfortunately?

But then again, the pose is a sitting one, which offers a lot of flexibility in term. On your monitor, on your shoulder, it’s all up to you. But with the cloak and ladder, it does takes up lots of space both in width and height.

Not to mention it comes with a ladder, rare for Alter to provide something other than a flat base. The quality’s not too bad either. But it might not fit other figurines on the ladder though.

All in all… wasn’t as cute as I was hoping it to be. But nonetheless, quite a different pose and design from your normal standing up boring figurines. Satisfactory purchase.

My Nayuki figurine finally came in the mail a couple of weeks back. (...)

My Nayuki figurine finally came in the mail a couple of weeks back. I didn’t really intent to get this one, but Stripey first convinced me to get the Mai figurine, and then add in the Nayuki one to make it a complete set with Ayu. While overall nice and better than the promo photos I saw (which initally turned me off), there’s nothing outstanding that you can really say about this figurine.

The box remains mostly similar to that of Ayu’s

Her accessories are a bag, and a snow rabbit. Pretty boring stuff. Her hair is made up of an amazing number of strands though.

I can only categories this figurine as being nice, boring and safe. It’s nice, better than the promo photos. But absolutely boring. It would be nice to have say… a sleepy nayuki carrying a frog. Something different. Nayuki’s my favorite character, but this figurine doesn’t particularly stand out.

Here’s a comparison to Ayu. They’re the same scale.. shows you how much smaller Ayu is. heh…. I’m eagerly waiting my Mai figurine to arrive though.

Time to post photos of this that I took so long ago, especially since HLJ just shipped my Feb shipment of figurines. (...)

Time to post photos of this that I took so long ago, especially since HLJ just shipped my Feb shipment of figurines. It’s the first Mikuru figurine that’s out, done by Kaiyodo, measuring at around 23 cm.

Firstly… the box. It’s different in that it’s all plastic. Overall, the desgin was surprisingly pleasing. And although I don’t have the photos, it is tied to the plastic packaging inside the box in the most bondage like manner.

Some distinct points.

Yes, the breast are molded plain horizontal. Feel free to use it as a table. How weird it is, is up to your own taste.

Her legs are never ending. And I mean never ending. Which is a plus point for me. Since it’s doesn’t even look weird.

Â

To end it, just some more shots from various angles.

Thoughts

Quality wise, there wasn’t anything that disappointed. Except maybe the base. They should have done better. The box packaging really does look nice to me, and was a plesant surprise.

Honestly though, I thought that the one by ateliar looked a lot more like Mikuru in terms of facial expression. While the max fac one looks positively tortured (not my type).

So in summary, while the figurine is nice as a stand alone, from photos thus far, it would seem that those from other companies look a lot more like Mikuru (to me, and from photo because they arn’t produced yet). I do think the meek expression is very suitable though. haha

I really loved the box. One of the nicer ones I’ve had. It really fit the “dreamy” theme that Kanon is. You can’t really tell, but there’s also nice scenery painted inside the box itself.

Shots of Ayu from various angles.

As can be seen, the base is not just a clear plastic base which was used in the “promo” photos. Instead it’s an orange paved. As can be seen from the photos, Ayu is supported by only one leg. And at an angle at that. As of now, I’m not so sure how steady the figurine would be over time.

And yup, it comes with a replacement Bag if you want to switch it out. This one is with the “missing item”

Last but not least, the Taiyaki. Hot damn. The quality of the Taiyaki was way above my expectations. After all, it’s just Taiyaki. But they even painted in the red paste for the one Ayu is eating. *thumbs up*

Thoughts

Had to blog this since Feb is coming to an end, which means I’ll be getting the figurines I ordered for Feb soon.

After a few recent bootlegged figurines (by accident), it’s been a while I’ve gotten a nice one. So I’m really pleased with this one. Got my Mikuru figurine together with this one, so it was double joy.

The quality and details were really well done, which made me go order the Nayuki and Mai figurines as well to make it a set. It’s really good compared to the photos HLJ used initially.

The face ain’t as “moe” as what Kanon animates it to be, but you can’t really expect it from a figurine either. I like it a lot as it is. It is a bit scrawny and on the thin side as well (the legs). Which I realised matches the anime.
