Thoughts on Kanon

Somehow watching Kanon made me love Air more and more. (...)

Thoughts on Kanon

Somehow watching Kanon made me love Air more and more. (Buy me the Blu-ray set anyone?) Notdotq has a brilliant entry on this, and I agree fully with what he said about air being better. (doesn’t mean Kanon is lousy though)

Listening to the acoustic version of the soundtrack will never fail to make me want to cry

I hated how each arc seemed so disconnected

Yet miraculously, everything got brought back together in the end

Yuuichi blamed himself for not being strong enough to help the many people in all the many situations? Would it be horrible if I said I felt the same way myself. Except I’m not even as strong as Yuuichi is.

If Akiko had known all along that Ayu was in a coma, why didn’t she mention it waaaay earlier.

If I wasn’t a fan of Horie Yui, I definitely am now.

Will add more when I think of them.

Kyoani’s attention to detail shone through again. This is what I call fanservice. There are probably plenty littered throughout the whole series, but I’m not one of those who can easily catch them. Yet subconsciously it makes the whole series that much better.

Bent stop sign at accident scene

I’ve seen people complained about Kanon getting so much credit for simply just following an existing storyline, and for using an OST that was already there. But I think the point is that they presented such a wonderful story despite being limited as well. And you can’t deny their faithfulness to adaptations, and ability in bringing the characters to life.

I was actually a little puzzled with the ending of Kanon. Took me awhile to understand it. Kinda anyway. Loved Air a lot more, but Kanon I guess is kinda different.

Kanon is about making you tear while smiling your way through. About happiness and miracles. And a happy ending. A little bit of a feel good factor as well.

Kanon felt a little too long for me. Maybe because the arcs were so disconnected. At one point I was feeling like I was seeing too much of Yuuichi and getting sick of him.

Still all in all a very good anime. Great appeal to a bigger crowd, especially those who didn’t understand Air.

Who else animates a bathtub ducky so well
This episode was amazing in many ways. You can say I was surprised (I guess I shouldn’t have) with how well the story was presented. (...)

Who else animates a bathtub ducky so well

This episode was amazing in many ways. You can say I was surprised (I guess I shouldn’t have) with how well the story was presented.

The side glaces at the start of the show made by Nayuki’s mom was scary.

Even changes with Nayuki were presented as very subtle. Yet to the audience it’s a very strong point.

Yuuichi suddenly blushed too much in this episode.

In fact, it just feels wrong for him to come so actively onto a girl.

The jokes remained Amazing.

Ore, Tsukimiya Ayu

Plotwise….

As someone who didn’t watch the first Kanon, nor played the game… I felt that the different clues and forebodding were presented very well.

Through the episode, I expected, but hope it wasn’t true, that the tree was the school.

I totally didn’t expect what happened to Ayu either.

And best of all… you still can’t say for 100% sure who the ending pair will be!

I’m surprised. The show actually managed to get better as it’s going along.

I obviously haven’t done any videos in a long time. In fact, this clip isn’t cute at all.

I guess I chose this scene more for private reasons. I just found the whole situation so ironic, talks of BGR always tugs at the strings of my heart. haha.

Many cute scenes in episode 19… like the Nayuki who drowns washing her face. Or even all those chibi yuuichis.

But the highlight has got to be the kissing scene between Ayu and Yuuichi. KyoAni… You’ve really outdone yourself.

Uguu~~ Shocku!

I’m shaking…. OHhhhhh~~

Kawaii! I totally admire Yuuichi’s wit. I strive to learn from him.

That said, I had the exact same reaction as Yuuichi when I saw Mai in her outfit. I was eating lunch, and my mouth just stayed wide open. Although admittedly if I was there, I wouldn’t have been able to say anything for the next 15 min.

p.s. Yuuichi’s monkey dance was amazing.

To butcher up the video as I normally do would be a crime.
Maybe I’m a little too sentimental. Such a teary episode. And not even the conclusion. (...)

To butcher up the video as I normally do would be a crime.

Maybe I’m a little too sentimental. Such a teary episode. And not even the conclusion.

You know, ever since episode 8, the thought keep staying in my mind about pork buns. About how Yuuichi kept offering Makoto a Pork Bun to get her to do something. Yet in the end, all the Pork Buns in the world wouldn’t be able to save Makoto.

Before watching this, I was wondering, what so special about Air and Kanon. It’s not as if you don’t have anime characters dying in other series. But I think what Key and Kyoani does is to make you totally fall in love with each and every character. You can’t empathize with them, but you definitely do not want to lose them.

Lots of varied expressions from Makoto this episode. How can you NOT love her! Gah!

I thought there were some pretty sweet moments. Like Akiko cooking curry rice so that nobody had to use chopsticks. *sigh* So sweet and so sad. My poor vocabulary does it injustice.

On a cynical note, what did they do to the other characters. No money to pay the seiyuus to voice concurrently. Toei dealt with each arc simultaneously, so how would Kyoani deal with it? You know what I’m hoping… that this means Makoto somehow gets saved and appears in the other arcs. Sadly unlikely.

That’s all I have to say. I think.

Afterglow?? *frowns* haha

Afterglow?? *frowns* haha

Before watching this episode, I went to look at the preview, which basically gave the title of episode 9 as Berceuse. It’s french for lullaby.

Having known that, I pretty much watched the show with much shivering and goosebumps. It’s like watching a person going through life happily, but knowing that he’s going to die in the next few days.

There was laughter, but an overwhelming cover of sadness.

I thought this scene was so funny, yet so tragic at the same time, if you knew the background of makoto and what’s to come… Every word seemed filled with foreshadowing and irony.

In other notes, yup… this episode felt a little short in budget. The still shots… and where did every other character disappear to. But kudos to KyoAni for making the episode feel so wonderful regardlessly.
