The episode starts off with scenes of mass evacuation. But inside a single transport, we’re shown how a kid with despair sickness suddenly achieving full recovery. Yet she talks about how she loves both her parents, and how they will be able to remain together soon, just as a meteorite smashes into their transport. Even kids from the Dewey Novark foundation have seemingly recovered. All of them clutching empty books though.

Meanwhile, Captain Jurgens reports that metoeorites are smashing in towers across the planet, seemingly on purpose and on target. He also reports about a hole 100 km wide in the Tension mountains. But Talho tells Holland not to lose hope, for Renton n gang might still be alive.

Meanwhile, Renton is despaired at having failed, even though he promised to protect the command cluster, and the death of his family. Eureka is seemingly doing alright, but is not able to hear the voice of Nirvash. Suddenly Nirvash picks itself up and starts crawling in a certain direction.

Meanwhile Dewey with his Ginga command ship is going into the Tension mountain all by itself, while the rest of the fleet fights off the scab coral. Holland takes it as a sign that Nirvash is still alive, and chooses to fly in as well. Captain Jurgens however says that he wants Holland to go in by itself.

Actually, Captain Jurgens wants to be the shiled for the entrace of the Gekko Go. He just wants Holland to take care of Dominic and Anaemone, who are their comrades.

Nirvash stops above the remains of the command cluster. Ginga arrives at this point, and starts dropping bombs all around the command cluster. Just as the Nirvash looks to be in trouble, the Gekko Go arrives, and a intense dogfight battle breaks out.

However, Ginga is equipped with the latest unmanned weapon, and is invulnerable to ranged weapons. Gekko Go is hit, but survives. Renton radios the Gekko State that they have chosen to form the next command cluster together with Nirvash, and find a way for everybody to live together.

Holland smashes kamikaze into the Ginga with the 303 and promtly starts destroying the Ginga. Dewey orders a ship-wide evacuation, while Eureka starts the process of turning into the command cluster.

However, Dewey is still on Ginga, and Holland soon meets him, and a fight breaks out. Holland loses out, and Dewey has him at gunpoint, while explaining the reason for all he does. To redeem his dignity, the dignity of the human race, and dignity of Earth.

Suddenly, the Gekko Go rams into Ginga, knocking everybody off balance. Suddenly they get a message from Jurgens, that Dewey is not to be killed.

Back to Holland and Dewey, Dewey strips off his uniform to reveal that he has connected with the scab coral, and his life is connected with the life of the planet too. Aiming a gun at his head, he soon takes his own life.

This triggers a reaction in anaemone. But as severely, Eureka does a full transformation. Dropping from the Nirvash, she apologises to Renton, that she is unable to keep to her promise.

The episode starts off with preparations by Dewey.His plan is to fire the Oratorio Number 8, which will drill a hole into the crust, allowing theEND to fly in to planet earth. All the while, you have a haunting voice over by Anaemone, who is reflecting about life and regrets and basically having an “oh well” feeling. (it’s hard to describe in words, you’ve really got to hear it)

Meanwhile, Dominic decides that he should be the one to stop Anaemone, and takes off in a mini vessel. All the while, he is begging to be allowed to go after Anaemone. Well, the hole made by Oratorio No. 8 is closing fast, and the military is closing in too. Dominic does make a passionate plea to Holland. “What’s wrong with having personal feelings”. Holland relents, and lets Dominic go ahead, while he turns around to handle the military.

On earth, Eureka and Renton are disturbed by Nirvash, and looking up, they see theEND. Nirvash ends up taking off on it’s own and attacking theEND. However, theEND ends up simply firing a projectile at the command cluster. The projectile successfully attaches though Nirvash tries to stop it. It succeeds in preventing theEND from firing off a signal though, and a heated battle begins.

Suddenly, Eureka indicates that Nirvash wants them to listen to the voice of the theEND pilot. After much persuasion, Renton finally relents, instead of just fighting.

And Anaemone’s sad voice comes through, “maybe after this ends, someone will tell me that it’s ok to live”. It moves the heart of everyone, and they agree to talk to Anaemone. They try to get Anaemone to listen to them, to know that it’s okay to live, but it doesn’t get through to Anaemone.

“It’s so painful, for that person is gone” Opening their cockpit, and holding hands, Eureka tries to convince Anaemone that she is sure the person will hear her feelings. Just as Anaemone believes it’s impossible, and initiates the firing sequence for the signal, Dominic falls from the sky. But theEND fires anyway.

This causes Dominic to get blown away, and the anguish of Anaemone, transformed the END into white. (Something like Nirvash). It then takes on a mind of it’s own, and launches Anaemone towards Dominic, and they barely succeed in catching one another. Where Dominic procceeded to confess.”I want to live. together with you dominic forever”

However, theEND had already fired the signal, pinpointing the location of the command cluster. Dewey fires the Oratorio No 8. at full power this time. Though it destroys the Oratorio No. 8, it also penetrates all teh way to the command cluster, causing an explosion.

theEND ( we never found out the name of it unfortunately) ends up trying to protect Anaemone and Dominic from the force of the explosion, and ends up dying in the process. The Nirvash barely gets away (being an aircraft), but looks damaged.

Thoughts

I thought the imagery was really good to see Anaemone’s pet cling onto Dominic at the start of his mission. And that it’s also the one that brings them together at the end. It started off being such a hateful thing. Especially to Dominic, but in the end, Dominic loved it too.

Anaemone’s Seiyuu really did a great job conveying all the feelings through the voice I felt. I loved it. I really did.

And it was really sweet seeing Eureka reaching out to Anaemone, Dominic acting just like the youth Renton is.

And of course, the focus being the transformation of Anaemone. It wasn’t what Dominic did, it wasn’t what Eureka said, it came entirely out of her inner self. We’ve been seeing sparks of who Anaemone can be all these while, and the conclusion was really well done.

Perfect story telling.

I wonder how Dewey planned to overcome the problem of the Limit of Life, or did he mean for everyone to die, being just plain demented. Two more eps!

This episode was just one big revelation before the fighting begins. Yet surprisingly, it wasn’t boring at all. and was still somehow touching. Maybe it was the music, maybe it was Renton. haha.

Renton runs towards his sister, although surprisingly, Eureka tells him not to. Suddenly, Renton’s surroundings transformed into a library, but Renton does not notice until a long time later. But Reton’s sister (Diane) assures him that Eureka and the kids are fine, though they are no where to be seen.

Diane proceeds to explain about the history of the Scab Coral, the limit of life, and the only solution for humanity to survive.

Meanwhile, Eureka is running, where she remembers that what she wants to do is to share about the love story of her and Renton. (that’s what I assumes anyway, she was holding the book where she drew a gigantic heart with sakuya last time) While the kids are on their own and lost, when they are suddenly met by Adrock.

Renton refuses to accept the solution that Diane proposes.(or rather, the scab coral proposing through Diane) And he says he’ll fight it out against Dewey with Eureka and Nirvash. Meanwhile, Eureka is excitedly sharing stories with Adrock, when Renton arrives.

Later Diane arrives saying that the scab coral will wait for Renton to fight with Dewey, before doing anything. Nirvash arrives too, signalling that it’s time to go home. Well.. back home… Dewey is initiating some sort of plan. (I still can’t really figure out what it is) Till the next episode!

Revelations

Well… 10 000 years ago, the scab coral arrived on earth, finding themselves on an ocean bed. They want to communicate with humans, but the only means they know of is to merge with things. As they grew bigger, the humans feared them more, and still no communications. Until humans left earth entirely, with the scab coral growing as large as the planet. This was when the scab coral realised how lonely it was.

Somehow, humans landed back on earth. The scab coral this time was more careful, understanding that the humans feared them, and sakuya and eureka were basically sent to understand how to communicate with humans.

But dewey wants to attack the scab coral’s command center, and all the scab coral will actually awaken. This will cause life to pass the limit of life, and hence space will tear. Diane proposed that the only solution for humanity would be to merge with the scab coral.

Of course Renton has other ideas. He will stop Dewey, the scab coral won’t awaken. and all will be fine.

Thoughts

Very good presentation. Esepcially when you had Eureka’s and Renton’s voice mergine, showing their unity.

Initially, I was still wondering if Diane was real, but when Adrock appeared, I guessed that i had to be real. (later it was revealed that they actually merged with the scab coral). I guess that explains why they can’t just go back to humanity and explain everything, and thus need Renton.

The battle begins and should last for the next 3 final episodes. Maybe the scab coral will arrive, aiding Gekko state. Maybe Dewey’s plans would go horribly wrong, destroying 99% of his own forces. Who knows. There has to be a way for the Gekko state to win with only two ships.

*pondering if I should watch all 3 next episodes at one go*

Renton’s running a high fever, probably as a result of infection from the wound on his arm. So silly of him to do what he did. (at least it isn’t some mysterious fatal disease) Everybody’s busy taking care of Renton, when suddenly a storm approaches.
Hunkered down in a makeshift tent in the storm, the kids long to cuddle with Eureka. But the warmth and scent reminds maeter of the mom that she had previously. But everybody remains strong, and Eureka is their mom now.

Suddenly, Renton gets spasms, and Eureka is forced to hold him down. When Renton’s spasms subside, tears come to Eureka’s eyes, which drop onto her hand. This somehow triggers a reaction in Eureka’s body, and she ends up growing wings. She shies away from the kids because she feels that she cannot be with them as she is different. But the kids remind her that she is still their Mama, no matter. (A very good lesson for all of us in the world of differences)

Meanwhile, emotions are running high around Gekkostate, and it shows in the way people deal with one another. There are also still people who are not happy with Holland, even though they have defected. Holland basically offers himself to be bashed, having killed their comrades. But Talho steps in saying that this is not the time, especially when they’ve got a gigantic enemy to defeat.

Holland shares a tender moment with Talho, and reveals his fears and desires to survive and have a family with Talhoa But they are interrupted with news brought by Ref-surfers that Dewey is on the move.

Dewey seems to have initiated some project. I’m not quite sure what it involves, or what he is talking about. But I think at least it involves gathering of many military ships. And they are going to strike somewhere. Dewey also requests for a grand dance from Anaemone. A wilted anaemone flower seems to represent what she’s feeling at the moment, and I think she feels for dominic.
So basically Holland and Captain Jurgens go off to fight. I think the scene where each group rallies, was hilarious. The contrast between the miltiary group, and the relaxed group that gekko state is.

Back on earth, Renton has recovered the next day. And thankfull, he didn’t say anything stupid after seeing Eureka, in fact, it made for a very sweet moment. And I guess I was correct in saying that Nirvash is linked to how Renton and Eureka are feeling. Cause Nirvash is finally working! Renton and Eureka discover a new landscape.

They proceed to fly over in the now working Nirvash, where surprise surprise… they meet Renton’s older sis.

Ah. so sweet. Makes you eagerly await the next episode. I want to know what happened in the past!

Renton and the kids have caught up with Eureka. She asks them to stay away, but they don’t, with Eureka insisting to Renton that she’s a different being. But renton, in all his innocence, starts to take a stone to hurt his arm too, saying that now he is the same too, and that they will remain a couple.

Maurice suddenly appears with Charles’ gun and aim it at renton. Blaming him for taking away Eureka. When Eureka stands to protect Renton, Maurice recounts about how he still rememebers it was Eureka who killed his mom, and now he has only Eureka left. And he doesn’t want her to leave, and wants her to love only him. But Eureka reminds him of how she still loves them, and that she doesn’t want them to remember sad stuff like their own mom. Renton too, reiterates that he loves them, because Eureka does.

But the bigger story of the episode was the rebellion by Dominic. I expected him to either bear with Dewey, or to just run away again. Together with Captain Jurgens, they meet up with the Gekko State, and are convinced of what the truth is. They try to convince other federation ships to join in the rebellion, but in the end, they are the only ones who do so.

Meanwhile, amounst the civilians, the work of Stoner is succeeding, and the civilians are finding out about the truth too. This should form the core of the rebellion as well.

We also have Dominic trying to convince the Gekko state why they should believe him. Dominic is fighting to protect the one he loves. Anaemone. And somehow, it was exactly the same thing Renton did with regards to Eureka not too long ago, which shows how similar they are.

Lots of emotions coming from every character, none of them lame or fake. An episode that was overwhelming i must say.

It is revealed that Holland has been flying a limitless LFO, which requires a large infusion of drugs. His body is obviously failing, yet no matter how much Talho wants to protect him, there’s no way Talho can want to stop him, because she knows what Holland wants and needs to do.

Dominic goes to get a replacement pilot of theEND, accompanied by Captain jurgens and his crew. They arrive at Jurgen’s hometown, which was destroyed in the war, and not yet rebuilt. When he stops over at his house to pay respect to his family who passed away. But Dominic sounds the car horn to hurry him up. It’s not that Dominic is a jerk. But I think it’s his way of expressing how he feels, for he too, has lost his family too.

Back to Eureka and Renton. They are trudging through the forest in the Nirvash, and find themself another beach. We have a scene of Maurice and Renton alone, where Maurice expresses his anguish about Eureka and what’s happening.

That very night, after ‘dinner’, Eureka goes away on her own, leaving early. But Renton and the kids go after her. Eureka asks them to stay away though. But in the end, Eureka glowing green is revealed. And she runs away.

Uh… we can guess about why Eureka is “glowing”. Maybe it has to do with her emotional state, like what happened Sakuya. Nirvash’s broken down state can also have something to do with how Renton and Eureka are not really in an optimum situation.

Anyway, we find out that Anaemone is actually not the same as Eureka. In fact, she’s man-made. Dewey’s Novak Foundation basically gathers many kids with despair sickness, and basically do medical trials on them. Basically, they need a large amount of drug for them to get back to a state where they can function normally, but not everybody can take that amount of drugs. So far, only Anaemone can. In fact, when dominic arrived, all three potential candidates die from the amount of drug injected.

We’re still not told what causes despair sickness nor what kind of effect it has though. But Dominic is obviously traumatised by what he sees. And though he wants to save anaemone, he decides that it’s not fair to subject others to what anaemone is going through, just to save her.

Ep 43 was quite a lovely symphony, providing more answers, yet giving as many questions to keep the intrigue. So Renton n Eureka landed on…. EARTH (duh. more specifically, japan) They are stuck on a beach, without food and water, and a cliff that they cannot climb.

At the same time, Dewey is explaining to Anemone his background at a dance. He killed his father in a ritual, supposedly to calm the earth, but the ritual was deemed rejected. (I’m left to wonder if this was a real ritual practised, or whether Dewey is just plain psycho.) At the same time, his mom died at the birth of Holland, and Holland was deemed the chosen one. (chosen one to do what?)

Surprisingly, the Gekko State goes to space to attack Dewey’s Orange weapons. I guess the Gekko Go can actually manuever in space, which I never thought it could. In addition, Holland has a new mecha. It’s able to fight in space, and seems directly connected to Holland’s brain. Although it seems to severely drain him.

I like how everything is choreographed in this episode. As for the plot… we’re starting on a journey that cannot be stopped. The answers and questions that just keep flowing. Keep watching!
