To Love-Ru - ep 01
I have been waiting ages for this anime, and I mean ages. Fell in love with the manga after another blog recommended it (and I seldom read manga), and was quite happy when the anime was announced. It’s animated by Xebec, famous for Love Hina. Same kind of genre, hopefully they adapt the manga well!
Favorite character design being Haruna. hoho.
The anime starts off with a space chase, reminiscence of star wars, with the one being chased escaping to hyperspace at the last minute. The story then jumps to Rito, who as a high school boy, is in love with Haruna. This ever since Haruna was the only person to believe in Rito in middle school, where everybody suspected him of digging up the school garden. Time after time, Rito has tried to confess though, never succeeding. The final try being interrupted by a falling spaceship.
The problem is Rito is very very shy with girls. VERY SHY. So imagine him turning all red, when Lala pops up in his bathtub. Lala explains that she’s an alien. Best proof is a tail. She goes round with a “clothes robot” named peke, who is in charge of transforming into her dress. Lala is the one running away, and warped into the bathtup using one of her “devices”
Lala’s pursuers do catch up with her though. Surprisingly, Rito gets the courage to drag Lala out of his room, onto rooftops and away!! before being cornered. Of course Lala has some tricks up her sleeve. Namely, her inventions. This time round, being a large vacuum. Perfect device, except she doesn’t know how to switch it on.
Next day, Haruna says hi to Rito, wanting to ask about what happened the night before. Rito takes the opportunity to confess. He does it with his eyes closed, without realising that Lala had appeared infront of him. Well… Lala was thinking the same thing about loving Rito… so hey! why not get married!!
Thoughts
I really loved the character designs in the manga. The introductory episode has stucked closed to the manga, animating the first chapter only. Of course, there are some things you can never see in the manga, like peke transforming into Lala’s clothing. (I sure don’t recall her moaning haha)
The animation seemed a little poor. In fact, seemed on par with Love Hina, and love hina was produced eons ago. Am I asking too much? haha. Lala is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, who does sound suitably cute. I am looking forward for more though. Entertaining anime to relax you for 20 min. heh.
