Seiyuu Awards - Yui Kano

Just wanted to bring some more attention which I first read on theOtaku.com. For the first time, Seiyuus were honoured with awards at the Tokyo Anime Center in Akihabara, Japan. I’ve always looked out for the seiyuus in an anime series, because I think they play a major role as well.

Unfortunately though, I either didn’t recognise the seiyuu, or didn’t think that they particularly stand out. (Doesn’t mean they don’t deserve their awards). Of course there weren’t many surprises, like Aya Hirano winning one for Best New Comer.

pro_kano_yui.jpg I wanted to highlight Yui Kano though, who voices Momoko in Sumomomo. Her voice acting as Momoko was just absolutely unique and suitable. You could just go on hearing her chant “Koushi-dono!”

Born 22nd Dec 1983, She’s from Sumida, Tokyo. (um. that’s all I know about her!) Seems like Momoko is her first major role. ANN Wikipedia

Hopefully this would mean more major roles for her in future seasons.

Thanks for doing this. She has a unique voice and personality. There is a lot of grumbling about her winning the award, but i think she will prove the critics wrong. I checked Wikipedia Japan and found out more about her:

According to Wikipedia Japan, Kano is represented by Aoni Productions, and her nickname is Yunyun.

She attended a college called “Amusement Media General Academy.” While there, she was chosen to be on the radio show they sponsored, which starred Minagawa Junko and Hirohashi Ryou. That was how she came to the attention of Aoni, who took her on when she graduated, and she got work as an assistant on radio shows and doing some TV voice-overs as well as minor roles in many anime, from 2003 on: Samurai Guns, DearS, Ring ni Kakero, Glass Mask, Peach Girl, DCSS, Ayakashi, Kamisama Kazoku, Binbo Shimai, Black Lagoon 2, Yume Tsukai, etc. She still had to do part-time work at a Lawson’s convenience store, however.

In June 2005, she was the subject of a show in an NHK educational series about jobs, showing the life of a new seiyuu. Thereafter, on radio dot i she showed her gift of the gab, and became a radio personality. She first became a regular in Himawari! and then got her big break as the star of Sumomo mo Momo mo. She got her own radio show with Onosaka Masaya, as well as being on Sumomo Radio with Hirano Aya and Miyazaki Ui. She and Aaya seem to get along really well.
