Lucky Star – ep9
Recycled themes for jokes make for boring viewing. Luckily character cuteness still makes for good show. Heavy japan culture references used in this episode though, especially regarding sports.
The start sees Konata proclaiming she reads manga for the reading program.
Studies? Konata can’t concentrate. Except that she ends up meeting her sensei online while gaming, and ends up getting scolding. This even though sensei didn’t study when she was young either.
Tsukasa’s turn to demonstrate how she cannot study as well, falling asleep whenever she can’t solve questions, which is all the time. At least Tsukasa didn’t rush off to watch tv this time, having taped her tv dramas.
Konata ends up asking Miyuki for advice, who tells her to just do her normal way of studying. Great advice, except that Konata’s normal = not studying. Konata obviously ends up doing not too well. Tsukasa does better than normal though, thanks to Kagami’s tutoring.
The topic of personality type is brought up as well, as everybody has ‘fun’ guessing each other’s blood type, and matching it to their personality. This progresses to the use of sushi matching to their personality. Konata ends up being matched to ginger slices. Hoho
Kagami calls up konata later that night to clear up any misunderstanding about fraternal twins not necessary having the same blood type. After Kagami does a logical analysis of tv show psychics, Konata admonishes Kagami to try to act her age and have fun!
Back at the twin’s household, their father tries to be considerate with regards to their results. But their older sis happily comes in and points out that while Tsukasa scored higher than normal, and Kagami lower than normal, Tsukasa still scored lower than Kagami.
Praises from neighbor makes Tsukasa feel that she’s getting the praises simply because she’s Kagami’s sister.
HOrro movie time, even though Tsukasa hates horror movies. Everybody thought that Konata is late, but actually she’s trying to disguise as a kid to purchase tickets at kids price. (movies in japan are really expensive)
Cake Buffet! (another common thing in japan) Obviously they end up getting too much. (penalty payment if you have left overs) Watch them struggle to finish up everything. Kagami remains the best performer.
Konata helps Miyuki with eyedrops, which wouldn’t be so bad, if Konata didn’t keep having that evil glint in her eye.
Final speech sees Konata teaching on how to enjoy those mail-in lucky draws.
Tsukasa is introduced this time round in Lucky channel. When Shiraishi mentions about Tsukasa having an idol look though, Akira proceeds to teach him all there is to being an idol, and how to pose for photos.
Ending Song: Kogarashi ni Dakarete by Koizumi Kyouko (1986). Sung by Konata. Great ‘acting’ by Aya Hirano, but she’ll never make it as a singer.
Thoughts
I love Kagami, but Konata always just catches my eye first.
I already knew early on that something seems a little bit familiar about Tsukasa’s appearance…
Anyway, that eyedrop part was made of win.
no wonder u asked me abt cinema tix prices..doh..
