Kagami makes a talented appearance as the unloved sister of the family, putting in a brilliant performance which results in a happy ending for everybody.

My favorite story of the episode. Family crisis at the Hiirgai home, when Matsuri starts making a fuss about the younger twins forgetting to buy dinner. Matsuri makes enough noise to piss Kagami off who leaves immediately to buy the stuff in a huff, such that she even forgets to get the shopping list.

Matsuri initially displays worries about the twins returning home later than expected. But ends up scolding Kagami for travelling to a further supermarket to get one of the ingredients needed for dinner. Kagami ends up showing a black face, especially when everybody starts praising Matsuri’s cooking. But all ends well in the end ;)

I love this because I thought that it showed very nicely how we can love one another, but it’s sometimes so hard to express. (of course, the nice colours and animation helps too)

Konata is frustrated about how news about otaku criminals often paint manga in a bad light. There are good manga too!

Another discussion leads to how siblings absorb good things from one another. Like how Kagami probably absorbed all the smart genes from Tsukasa. This probably explains Minami’s physical disadvantage… after hanging around Miyuki too much.

Another year…. another birthday. But Konata is still as short and young at heart.

Surprise Birthday party celebrations, “24″ style. Except that Konata neglects to mention that she’s not coming home for dinner.

Lots of talk between Kagami and Konata.

  • Dreams and aspirations. Konata has rubbish one, with her skill being able to name all pokemon monsters
  • Konata takes magazines from the bottom of the pile. While Kagami only orders sushi from the chef, instead of taking from the conveyor belt. Konata labels Kagami as cheapskate.
  • Novels are not for Konata
  • If novels make the soul richer, food snacks make the body fatter
  • Reverse psychology helps to make Konata read the novels serialized in magazines.
  • Kagami borrows one of Konata’s textbook, much to her regret.

Bad mood leads to mistakes leading to worse mood. Classic example by Kagami

Classics by the rest of the characters. Tsukasa finding a unrecognizable monster in the fridge filled with mould. Yutaka teaches you how to play game consoles. Cousin yui remain as love sick as ever.

Konata describes how having sisters is the best. Why… you can even form a tv show.

Thoughts

An episode that felt mostly uninspiring, except for the family scene involving Kagami. Oh, not forgetting the hilarious ED.
