Lucky Star - ep 16

This is the exact expression I had on my face for the first half of the episode, all through the talking.

But to Kyoani’s credit, I couldn’t help smiling and laughing either.

New phone for Konata. Comes complete with SHnY ringtone and background.

After not focusing on Miyuki before, an entire half episode focuses on Miyuki. Talk revolves around mom, who seems pretty much a konata clone (see pics below), in terms of intelligence and laziness. Surprising how Miyuki turns out. So the conversation revolves around raising of kids, as well as whether having a sibling affects one’s upbringing.

Miyuki displays her moe-ness by totally forgetting that she’s heating a drink in the microwaves over and over again. Of course, there’s also how she got shortsighted after her mom always falls asleep reading to her, but she always wants to complete reading in the dark.

Remember how Tsukasa looks like Akari from To Heart? Well, she basically gets stalked by a big bunch of otakus asking to take her photos. Luckily for her, Kagami is there for her.

Why are they hanging out in such a place in the first place! Konata had asked them to help buy a lelouch manga. RIGHT. Finally, Kagami asked the sales lady and finally found out that it’s a Code G***SS manga.

SHnY Lucky Star style

It’s been one year since Konata started work at her cosplay cafe. Her three friends finally pay her a visit. And of course! The cafe had to be cosplaying SHnY

Watching the waitresses play the role of their characters was just hilarious. Imaging Mikuru being a totally obedient waitress, while Haruhi refuses to take your order just because she’s the boss. Oh, and have fun listening to Aya Hirano constant switch voices between Haruhi and Konata.

Of course, things will not be complete without a performance of Hare Hare Yukai

The episode rounds off with a medical checkup for Yutaka and Minami. Yutaka didn’t grow at all, and of course it’s not reassuring when you look at konata. Meanwhile, Minami has worries of her own, especially with her chest.

There’s home ec class….

More showings by Kagami’s friends, who seemed to be totally identical to Konata and Tsukasa.

And lastly, evidence that Kagami is in the wrong family. Their older sister are as stupid as Tsuakasa, who tries to ask them for help with homework.

Lucky Channel

Yup. Akira gets her concert! Except that because of budget concerns, it’s in a KTV room.

Her Seiyuu Konno Hiromi even gets her very own concert as the ED as well!

Thoughts

Actually, most of the episode was pretty forgettable. But having Konata cosplay as Haruhi totally pwns. It was just simply awesome, especially for a fan boy like me.

It was a job well done animating the Haruhi characters as well. Totally looking like their characters, yet having the lucky star chubby cheeks.

Perfect platform for Aya Hirano to showcase her voice talents.

Oh yeah, will Aya Hirano get her shot at the ED? haha.

Of course, if you’re not a fanboy, you’d be as horrified as Kagami with all the excessive references to other anime like SHnY
