Lucky☆Star – ep03 : Pony tails FTW

Man, I laughed right through the whole episode. This was definitely a marked improvement over the last two episode, and should be what Lucky Star is all about. The cultural references remain extremely heavy though, it won’t be easy understanding all the jokes.

-Time to change to the summer uniform! Kagami: Bet there are some idiots like Konata who end up still wearing the winter uniform. Cue for Tsukasa to make an appearance in the winter uniform.

-How to win stuff in a lucky draw. Why… it takes LOVE of course. Either totally personalise your own with cute drawings, or send in hundreds. (Handwritten of course) Kagami just doesn’t have enough “Ai”

-Are Tsukasa and Kagami fracternal or identical twins. In fact, how would Kagami look like if they have the same hairstyle. + pop idol cultural reference. Massive teasing of Kagami by Konata. + word play.

-Summer = Hot. Konata makes the passengers on the train hot too by fanning herself provocatively.

-Why are marriages in June supposed to result in Bliss when it rains so heavily. Time for lesson by Miyuki.

-To wear a dress or Kimono at wedding, serious problems. Fashion now to wear mini-skirt instead though. (massive references to tons of anime here, refering to what type Tsukasa might be like)

-Konata asks Kagami to find the solution for a game herself to have better satisfaction. Kagami retorts that the same should apply to homework.

-Discussion about why mystery and detective anime always center on drama. Instead, they should be about finding a missing person, leading to a refernce to a H-game. (Biko = Stalker rapist game)  Conclusion that complex plots are often left hanging so as not to teach REAL criminals

-Rain in June used to be the best for Konata. Baseball games get cancelled and animes are aired instead. Cept not it’s all indoor domes.

-Discussion about how unrealistic it is for a delinquent and a genius to be in the same class. Same goes for young teacher and old student. (more references) Mystery how Konata got into such a good school. It’s solved by the father offering game stations as incentive. Real mystery is how Tsukasa is in the same class.

-Kagami gets totally pwned by Konata at playstation, even quiz games. “There has to be an easy party simulation game around, otherwise Kagami can’t possibly win.

-PONYTAILS!

-Big discussion on Comtiq’s refill cards. You’ve just got to collect them in 3s! “I’m just an Otaku. Whatever”

-Discussion on confessions and scandals. Ends with Miyuki showing off all her moe elements after she switches off the lights in the cafe as she was leaving.

-Lucky Channel: Introduction of Miyuki. Of course Akira is as jealous as ever.

-ED: Play on Sore ga Ai Deshou, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu OP. Even highlights how Aya Hirano can sing in an adult voice.

Thoughts

Yupz, definitely very good. Keep this up for the rest of the series and we’ve got a winner. However, the references are definitely super heavy. Just those that are a play on anime along, make it a lot to follow already.

After this episode, I bet all the Kagami fans will go crazy. Her interaction with Konata really shines. How can you not love her. haha.

Oh yah. Before I forget. Aya Hirano really shined in this episode as well, making full perfect use of her talent. *thumbs up*
