Hinano’s lucky star

I really didn’t want to post about this because a million and one other people did. That was until Hinano combined the op with Benny Hill theme. That is the win.

My opinion? I haven’t watched the actual episode… but… I love it. I love this kind of stuff. Cute. real cute. Like manabi and sumomomo. it’s just entertainment right? Don’t think too deeply into it.

Maybe it’s because my sister plays Audition (famous game in Japan, Korea and Singapore). And I’ve always found Audition cute. (alright.. i played it at times before too) And the dance moves in the OP looked way too similar to Audition

That said, apparently girls do not like this, (from sample of my friends). Even those who loved sumomomo and manabi. Not everybody might like this, but there’s definitely a large crowd for it. (look at audition)

Guess kyoani really knows how to make use of viral marketing now. There’s the dance scene. And with all the hoohaa about cuteness… who hasn’t heard of lucky star now.

I might just blog about this series after all… (just like the masses)

I’m still waiting for the subs to come out before making a final conclusion about the series. I’m really surprised that so many people don’t like it

Some people I spoke to didn’t like it because it was not as “dynamic” as Kyoani’s previous works, as in, the gags were not physical but rather verbal. But even with my limited command of Japanese, I still managed to catch a joke or two. Then again, that’s to be expected of a work based on a 4-koma series, right? I sense that there’s a lot of “in” jokes and cultural references in the series that won’t make sense unless you’re Japanese or have lived in Japan for a while… like the supposed “ending” karaoke.

It’s good, but it’s subtle humor, not slapstick like FMP or ironic like SHnY.
I think Hinano disliked it because it wasn’t what she even remotely expected, and the disappointment clouded her judgement as to the actual content of the show. It’s a pity as she’s one of my favorite bloggers and is usually far less intransigent in her judgements.

What really upsets me though, is the fact that there have been a few bloggers today and yesterday, insinuating that anyone who enjoys the show is a moe sexual fetishist and/or a Seifuku fanatic.
For one thing the 4koma discusses “moe” rather than being moe. And to find that a comedy set in a japanese school has students in seifuku, is hardly shocking.
They are slimy attacks; slandering the viewer rather than shows actual content, and are a disgusting way to critique.
