Les Misérables Shoujo Cosette – Introduction
Every since Lu Perry (very good fansubber I must add) highlighted this anime, it became a “must watch” for me. The pictures (more after the break, and provided by Lu Perry), just grabbed my attention, and the words that it was “very emotional” just clinched the deal for me.
The story takes place in early 19th century France. Cosette is the daughter of Fantine. Unable to secure a job as a single mother, Fantine decides to pay an inn keeper couple to look after Cosette, while she tries to find a job on her own. However, being cruel and corrupt, the couple treat Cosette in a manner Fantine can never imagine…
I’ve been waiting for a fansub group to pick it up, and Delicious fansub group finally has picked it up. So 3 cheers for them.
Other reviews have praised it quite a lot…
To sum it up, it’s fairly faithful to the original novel. However, the emphasis is slightly more on Cosette this time round. Which this anime adaption is very targeted towards kids, it does not dilute the meaning of the social problems that Les Miserables tries to bring across. Lots of questions to ponder, and many emotional stuff.
On a personal note, I have not touched nor watched anything related to Les Miserables before. I will be blogging on the series though (probably starting tomorrow), as the fansubs come out.
The series is animated by Nippon Animation, and will last 52 episodes. No seiyuus that I can recongnise… but they include Kaori Nazuka and Takashi Matsuyama.
(sincerely do hope that fansub group can follow through the entire 52 episodes)

Despite having not read the original novel or even see the musical, I know the basic outline of the story. But with the anime adaptation I am enjoying it quite a bit, despite the somewhat simplistic and child-focused animation. Being 52 episodes is indeed a long way however I do hope that it doesn’t drag on and be able to keep my interest in the series.
Yeah, it’s definitely child-centered, but so far it’s not obnoxiously so. They definitely added incidents to the original story to make it that way (like episode 3)–and I have been surprised at how much of the darker elements they seem to be heading toward, especially with the abuse in that third episode. And the story turns quite dark later on. (I’ve been blogging the show on my own blog, one of the few things I’m keeping up with this season.)
“Les Miserables” is one of my favorite stories so I’m eager to see them do it right–and with 52 episodes they will have plenty of room at least.
I wanna find eppies of this show subbed in English!!!! OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN!!!!!!!!!! I found the first 3, but I NEED all 52! Im a Les Mis JUNKIE, and my life wont be complete without it! Im concidering LEARNING JAPANEESE TO WATCH IT!!!! PLEASE!
Also, I wanna see themm in order, if at all possibbbbbble…
in response to paigey if youre a les mis junkie then you ought to have read the book… do you mean the musical, is what youre addicted to? because it seems to be a very different story in the anime version… but of course there have to be some changes, after all this is a very different design than the original story i wonder what victor hugo would think of this anime show of his story?
I have read the book. It was VERY hard to understand… Yes, I love the musical as well! The fisrt 3 eppies are more or less quite similar to the play. Personally, I have two opinions: 1. Victor Hugo is rolling in his grave. Or 2. He is over-joyed that younger people get to see his story! I am not sure which however…
ahh! why cant they sub all the episodes? ive read the book and i love this anime! but i cant find all the subbed episodes. Zut! man i wish they subbed it. anyone know where to find all the episodes? plese i need to know!!
they should have put in the whole novel, it’s wonderful
however i’m pleased by the anime makers this time
let’s hope they keep up the good work ^_^
yeah. a link to fansubs would be awesome if anyone could find it. ^-^
I’ve been watching it in japanese and it’s very confusing, though it seems to follow the book more closely than the musical, which is great.
