Kanon - Final Thoughts

Thoughts on Kanon

  • Somehow watching Kanon made me love Air more and more. (Buy me the Blu-ray set anyone?) Notdotq has a brilliant entry on this, and I agree fully with what he said about air being better. (doesn’t mean Kanon is lousy though)
  • Listening to the acoustic version of the soundtrack will never fail to make me want to cry
  • I hated how each arc seemed so disconnected
  • Yet miraculously, everything got brought back together in the end
  • Yuuichi blamed himself for not being strong enough to help the many people in all the many situations? Would it be horrible if I said I felt the same way myself. Except I’m not even as strong as Yuuichi is.
  • If Akiko had known all along that Ayu was in a coma, why didn’t she mention it waaaay earlier.
  • If I wasn’t a fan of Horie Yui, I definitely am now.

Will add more when I think of them.

Kyoani’s attention to detail shone through again. This is what I call fanservice. There are probably plenty littered throughout the whole series, but I’m not one of those who can easily catch them. Yet subconsciously it makes the whole series that much better.

I’ve seen people complained about Kanon getting so much credit for simply just following an existing storyline, and for using an OST that was already there. But I think the point is that they presented such a wonderful story despite being limited as well. And you can’t deny their faithfulness to adaptations, and ability in bringing the characters to life.

I was actually a little puzzled with the ending of Kanon. Took me awhile to understand it. Kinda anyway. Loved Air a lot more, but Kanon I guess is kinda different.

Kanon is about making you tear while smiling your way through. About happiness and miracles. And a happy ending. A little bit of a feel good factor as well.

Kanon felt a little too long for me. Maybe because the arcs were so disconnected. At one point I was feeling like I was seeing too much of Yuuichi and getting sick of him.

Still all in all a very good anime. Great appeal to a bigger crowd, especially those who didn’t understand Air.

Somehow even though the last few episodes were very nicely done .. I still find that its not the perfect awesome ending I was hoping for.
