Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA – ep 01 & 02
Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA appears to be a show about a bunch of school girls becoming mecha pilots at the same time. It’s based on the game Idolmaster, where you are the producer of a selected Idol. Sunrise basically took the background, and mated it to a mecha show.
The start of the show sees Haruka Amami going for an idol audition. Very clumsy and nervous, she nonetheless receives a letter telling her she got chosen. Your typical stumbling idiot, she accidentally drops a device at the train station. Lucky for her, the girl (Yukiho) who picked it up happened to be chosen as an idol master too. Both of them strangers to travelling, end up as each other’s companion.
Because both are generally bakas, instead of waiting for the welcoming party, they decide to try and find their dorm on their own. Obviously they get lost. But they do witness the launch of an idol. We find out that an idol is used to protect earth from meteors, (formed from what was previously the MOON
) We also find out that Haruka loves penguins.
However, the two are intercepted by a girl, and is about to be taken away, when suddenly a large idol emerges from under the water. Seems like the idol (also named Imber) has taken a liking to Haruka. Seeing this, another girl ( Chihaya) activates another idol (Nebilum) and takes hold of Imber. Somehow, Imber manages to get Haruka into its cockpit, and without Haruka doing anything, frees itself from Nebilum. It’s at this time that the idol fighting meteors in space arrives with its pilot Makoto and forces Nebilum to retreat.
Lots more talk and such later, Haruka and Yukiho are recruited to become Idol masters, and at the same time, become students of the school that’s basically the cover of their secret bases.
Other characters
Yayoi Tatsuki. Haruka’s good friend, and a REAL idol. Was supposed to meet Haruka at train station, but fails to do so because of idol commitments. Thought Haruka was being conned by a bunch of secret society people
Some of the other people from the team that busts meteors. Apparently it’s a big organisation with bases at different countries. They have a group of enemy in the form of a family
The group that form the enemy. Controlled by a crazy mother.
Thoughts
A little disappointing. But then again, the two episodes was all about introductions. And it can does hold some good promises. After all, this series comes from the team that brought you mai hime and mai otome.
It’s another one of those shows that threatens fanservice, but never quite does it. The mecha scenes do look good for a start. Although the plot is a bit weird. (what do you expect combining idols and mechas). The characters arn’t all that cute. YET. Maybe they’ll get more attractive later.
I’m watching this show because of the seiyuus. Quite disappointing to me, because I thought most of them didn’t perform well. Recognisable are Yui Horie as Yukiho, and Ami Koshimizu (Code geass and school rumble fame. i love her more now!) as Yayoi. The rest as a whole weren’t very good I thought.
All in all, still a long way to go to being a good series. However, the signs are pretty encouraging, looks like a fun series. We shall see how the plot goes. (will most probably be blogging this)
An anime needs an introduction, even it is very boring.
