Zero no Tsukaima - First Impressions
Haven’t started on any summer animes, and since this anime was highly rated, I decided to start with this one. And I wasn’t disappointed at all. It sounds a lot like harry potter to me. But since I’ve never quite followed harry potter, I can’t give you any comparison.
Let’s have a little background first. The character designer is Fujii Masahiro, so I’m not surprised that it has a few traces of Mahoraba. It’s by J.C. Staff productions, so it’s apparently very similar to Shakugan no Shana. The similarities are made worse by the fact that it is using the same seiyuus for the main characters.
I do rate it better than Mahoraba, and well, I never managed to catch Shakugan no Shana.
Fairly simple animation design. But I find the quality quite good. I’ve always liked cute stuff. And the character design of the main characters are pretty cute I must say. haha There’s something kinky about a guy being the familiar of a pretty gal.
And for the same reason, I like the ED as well. Although the OP doesn’t really do anything for me.
The story goes focuses on Lousie, who’s in magic academy, yet has not succeeded in any spells. You see the difference in magical power between Louise and Kirche, with Kirche using magic to even do simple things like wearing clothes, while Lousie still well… does it manually. Lousie is basically very cute, yet very haughty.
But each second year student has to undergo a ritual to summon a ‘familiar’. Lousie comes up with a very creative and powerful sounding spell, yet summons of all things, a commoner, Saito (basically, someone who can’t wield magic) . Compared to the familars of other students, Saito basically has a will of his own, even tries to run away, but of course fails.
Having been ‘bullied’ by Guiche, Lousie’s classmate, he gets back on him by revealing the fact that Guiche is two-timing. Guiche challenges him to a duel. And while initially trashed, Saito began to weild some mysterious power the moment his hand touched a weapon. And for the first time, a commoner defeated a noble(someone who can wield magic)
But he suffers much injuries, and is taken cared of by Lousie, for the next three days.
Very very cute, and it put a smile on my face through the first two episodes. I’m definitely following this. This shall serve as a good balance to the action shows like Eureka Seven and Blood +, sentimental show like honey n clover.
