People need to stop nitpicking on the storyline. I hope nobody is going “but it’s so obvious Ward is cromwell! why doesn’t Louise notice or something.” Sorry, I doubt anybody is watching because of the storyline. Anyway, yet another fun episode. A jealous Saito this time!

Continuing from the last epiosde, seems that Henrietta has decided to marry the prince from Germania for political reasons. However, she needs to retrieve a letter given to the Prince of Wales from the kingdom of Albion. Otherwise it will probably break her political engagement if the letter is found. Oh, and a Guiche who was evesdropping was included in the mission as well, after the princess finds out that she’s from the Gramont family.

Oh. And of course, Saito gets his usual punishment for not knowing his place in front of the princess. The ultimate came when he asked what so special about the letter that it might break the engagement.

Meanwhile, Saito is troubled by being called gandalfr. Siesta tells him that Colbert knows the most about mage history. Colbert ends up explaining to Saito about Gandalf as a powerful familiar of a void mage. However, void magic cannot be proven now. Colbert also recounts a story of 2 dragons, one who fell and he managed to get some foul smelling blood from. Saito can accept that he’s gandalfr, but cannot imagine that Louise can be a void mage.

That night, Louise is worried that such an important mission is placed in the hands of someone as inept as herself. Saito tells her not to worry. And Saito delivers the ultimate line, that he’ll protect her. Of course, Louise can’t stop blushing

Anyway, next day as they are preparing outside the gate, and waiting for their escort that Henrietta assigned, Louise suddenly gets ambushed by Guiche’s Verdandi, who apparently is attracted to the ring Henrietta gave Louise. Just as she is in danger of getting flattened, a blast of magic blows it away. It’s revealed to be Ward-sama. Captain of the Griffen Squadron, their escort, and well… Louise’s fiance.

Hence they travel to a port, before making their way to the kingdom of Albion. All the while, Ward-sama is carrying Louise on his Griffin, while Louise and Saito continue to exchange jealous glances. At the town, Louise explains that the engagement is something that her parents arranged. Saito can only reply that Ward is a very good man, causing Louise to leave in a huff. Left with Derffinger, Derffinger insist that Saito is jealous. But Saito keeps saying that he’s not, he just regrets saying to Louise that he’ll protect her.

At Dinner, Ward recounts Saito’s exploits, and asks if they would like a fight. Of course Saito agrees, against the wishes of Louise. After which, Louise and Ward head back to a single room, with Ward saying it’s alright since they are engaged. Meanwhile Fouquet is seen in the background

In his own room, Sato is talking to Derffinger, when Derffinger mentions that they being partners is not a coincidence. He served a gandalfr 6000 years ago, and so he does not. Derffinger goes on to explain that Saito is able to wield anything that was made with a purpose of being a weapon.

In another room, Ward is proposing to Louise to marry him once the mission is over. Just as he leans forward to kiss her, he says that he’ll protect her. This triggers in Louise’s memory what Saito said, causing her to utter Saito’s name. This makes Ward draw back, who leaves, but not before saying that he believes that by the time the mission is over, her heart will belong to him.

Battle between Saito and ward the next day. Saito is good with his sword, and swift as well. But is not able to overcome Ward’s magic.

Thoughts

A much better animated fight scene this time, although they still could do with lesson from Kyoto Animation. But that’s not crucial… still a very cute episode. Did you see the lightning sparks that flew back and forth between Saito and Lousie? haha

Good to see that their love is not more out in the open.

Yes yes. Ward is evil. And the dragons are probably WW2 planes as seen in the OP. Foul smelling blood? More like gasolene. It’ll be interesting how everything comes into play though.

Yes! waiting for episode 11 to see how Saito responds to a wedding between Louise and Saito.

Oh. and yes. Zero = Void. *wow* We’ve know all these while that Louise is powerful, ever since she blasted a wall in the academy’s tower.
