Tokimeki Memorial – ep 02

From having the whole school chase him in the last episode, this episode sees only the 4 sports club captains “chasing him”. Oh. add Tsukasa Kasuga to the 4 as well, since she’s “chasing him” in a sense as well. Can see that Aoba will be doing lots of running in episodes to come.

Starting off, we’re introduced to Tsukasa, the captain of the volleyball team. After practice in the locker room, she is asked how come she does not respond to any guys, since there was a bunch of them cheering her on during practice. Tsukasa replies that she likes guys too, but she is just waiting for the guy that she is fated to be with.

Back in Aoba’s class, the four sports captain are sitting at the back in a world of their own, discussing about aoba and how he seemed to be able to run very fast. Meanwhile, the rest of the class is choosing teams for the upcoming sports carnival. The guys are all excited to participate in the calvary battle, since Amamiya took part in it last year as well. Aoba’s two friends try to explain to him why the excitement, but by the time they are done, the selection is over and they are chosen to take part in the relay race. To their excitement, Amamiya chooses to take part in only the relay race this year.

After school sees Aoba getting chased by sports club people after news of his “abilities” gets around. We get introduced to the cafeteria girl, who gets knocked down by the horde. An enraged cafeteria girl who is very concerned about her bread thus saves Aoba by chasing them all away.

So soon. The challenge of the main sports captains…

First the track captain, who challenges aoba to a 100m race. In fact, he decides to run 100m once first, as a handicap, and to give Aoba an idea of his abilities. Of course Aoba can’t win him, but even as the track captain has a gigantic lead, Aoba’s friends help by distracting him about his running form. Thus Aoba manages to overtake him, saving his own life.

Next up is the swimming captain, who leaves what looks like a love note in his shoe box, asking Aoba to meet her at the swimming pool. Thus a swimming race is decided on. That is… until Aoba makes a comment about her boobs, making her all too embarassed to swim.

Last one up is the baseball captain. (since the final is captain of a girl’s volleyball team) The yakuza chick is here for Aoba’s rescue this time, giving him intense training in the hills. In the end, Aoba pitches a throw that hits the captain right in the face. Although seemingly a foul, the challenge is just for Aoba to pitch something that the captain can’t hit. So technically speaking, Aoba wins again.

Next day, Tsukasa oversleeps. Rushing to school, she ends up crashing into Aoba. Even as Aoba helps her up, Tsukasa declares that it’s a fated meeting, and that they are meant to be lovers. In fact, they are going to have a date next!

Thoughts
I didn’t find this as good as many people rated it. But I can see that there’s a lot of potential. But better than School rumble? I don’t think so. Not yet anyway.

I’m many episodes behind though. We’ll see we’ll see!

Maybe I don’t find this series as good as others because I just like stuff that makes me laugh outright.
