Sumomomo Momomo – ep 05

Is it me or are the writers trying to include as many sexual innuendoes as possible. This episode sees Iroha dating Koushi. Naturally, she forgets all about assassinating him until Hanzo decides to do it himself. Thus the only possible resolution is a battle between Iroha and Momoko.

The episode reveals that Hanzou is not Iroha’s real brother, but rather someone that Iroha saved previously, and now owes his life to Iroha. At that time, he had such a wonderful image of Iroha, yet the image of Iroha now is one of a cutie-pie!?! Iroha patiently explains that all this is just part of her evil plan to get him to work for her and thus restore her clan.

Meanwhile, Momoko remains as Koushi’s dog to be bullied.

Abuse no. 1

While Momoko continues to be abused, Hanzou appears disguised as Koushi’s father, conjuring up some story to convince Koushi to bring Iroha around the city. Where did Iroha learn to put on a “loli imouto” act? From Hanzou’s eroge.

So off to the city it is. Momoko is totally ignored, and tries to impress.
Koushi-dono! look! a juggler!
Koushi-dono! look! dogs!
Koushi-dono! Koushi-dono! Look! Dog-juggling!

Obviously attempt to impress fails

Then there’s the standard boat ride. Momoko’s left in a boat of her own. Walking in the park later, Iroha offers Koushi her ice cream while Koushi offers her his juice in return. Yup. Momoko’s ice cream is totally ignored, no juice for her either.

All those scenes are enough to give anybody a nosebleed, especially when Iroha spills ice cream onto her dress. And koushi was happily “helping her clean up”.

Hanzou who has been stalking them can take it no longer, and proceeds to kidnap Koushi when he goes to the toilet. Hanzou leaves him dangling at the wharf where Iroha had first saved him long ago. Of course, Momoko and Iroha arrive at the scene as well. (teleportation!) Even as Momoko strikes at Hanzou, Iroha intercepts to block. Thus the revival of the fighting Iroha!

Thus the fight begins. Hanzou strikes first. Easily defeated. Iroha exchange blows, before using one of her special skills. Once the smoke cleared, it is obvious that not only did Momoko block the hit, her counter-attack is too strong for Iroha to avoid.

Hanzou intercepts! Hanzou Blocks! Hanzou dies. (nearly)

This rejuvenates Iroha, who picking up Hanzou’s sword, launches her ultimate attack on Momoko. End result? Momoko still wins.

However, Momoko decides to hug Iroha and become friends. Seems like Iroha’s the most skilled person Momoko fought, there’s no need for Iroha to become something as lowly as an assassin. All this while, Koushi is still dangling above to sea, all forgotten, and finally disappears.

Thus makes the first actually person appearance by the costumed sanae, who rescues Koushi’s ass. (she appeared in a school board newspaper before)

Thoughts

I thought one problem that the series might have is excessive repeats of jokes that are NOT funny. I just saw one too many scene of Hanzou stalking.

That said, the fight was totally hilarious. This series has fights that are animated wonderfully, yet you can’t help but crack up at the same time. Too bad the fight didn’t last longer.

I definitely preferred the fighting Iroha. Imouto Iroha nearly killed me, it was just so wrong. haha.

Yay, Sanae makes her appearance. Really look forward to the how they present the 3 of them fighting over Koushi in School.
