Sumomomo Momomo – ep 02
The last time I had humour this good was back in school rumble season 1. This series is THAT good in terms of humour. The look on Koushi’s face when he finds out that Momoko joined his school was priceless.
We start off with Momoko asking Koushi to make love to her in the morning. Obviously Koushi’s answer is in the negative. Koushi’s father then enters and tells Koushi to train his martial arts. Koushi refuses, but Momoko enthusiastically asks the father to train her, and together, they end up trashing Koushi’s room. Koushi can only hide under the blanket, hoping for school to come where he won’t need to face such people.
In school, Koushi meets Sanae. It’s immediately obvious that both like each other, seeing how they asked for help in their homework from one another. Back in the classroom, Koushi simply gets an ominous feeling. His greatest nightmare has come through. It seems that Momoko managed to enter the school, after answering martial arts as her skillset. (Surely you’ll approve someone who has an aura of dragon roaring behind her when applying)
At home, Koushi’s father has received a letter from Momoko’s father about some bad news, which he’ll tell them when they are home. In school, Momoko accidentally reveals that she’s staying at Koushi’s house. Just as she’s about to say that they are going to get married in the future, Momoko receives evil vibes from Koushi. Momoko ends up saying that she and Koushi have an unusual relationship. This prompts a big reaction from Sanae, with Koushi trying to explain that they are just cousins, while giving Momoko evil glares.
Just then, the 3 bullies enter the room, and are equally horrified to see Momoko. They thus decide to get the help of Saigo-san, who is the delinquent amongst delinquent. Alas, they find him reading cinderella, and can’t disturb him.
Back in school, we see a bunch of girls gushing over Koushi. The same bunch of girls totally ignore their PE teacher, who thinks very highly of his own body. As such, he is insanely jealous of Koushi, and what do you know, the next period is PE.
As such, the pe teacher decides to hold a strength test, in order to compare Koushi and himself, and to show off to the girls. Apparently he participated in the olympics, though he got disqualified very early.
First up is a 50m race. Koushi is timed at a disappointing 7.3s However, even as the PE teacher starts to run, Momoko sees the girls around cheering Koushi on, and decides to run up to him to congratulate him. Overtaking the PE teacher, she clocks 3s.
Pissed, the teacher decides to demonstrate his agility by stepping side to side. Challenging Momoko to follow, he initially thinks that he is seeing double, but actually, Momoko is moving so fast that it creates an optical illusion. Momoko proceeds to totally defeat the teacher in shot put as well.
Last match is vaulting, the teacher’s best sport. Issuing a challenge, he decides that he will fail Koushi in PE if Momoko cannot clear the vaulting horse. (which is of course extra high) If Koushi fail, then he cannot graduate, and will never become a prosecutor. But the teacher turns around only to see Momoko jumping curiously in excitement at the vaulting horse.
The teacher ends up carrying the vaulting horse to the top of the roof. Momoko might be superwoman, but even she can’t jump that high. But hearing about how Koushi can’t become a prosecutor, she gets the determination to jump.
But it’s still an impossible height to jump. Even as the teacher valiantly offers to catch her, Momoko does not give up, but instead unleashes one of the her dragon power. This totally flattens the teacher, but Momoko clears the valting horse.
Saigo-san who has been watching at the side with the delinquents is not affected by the display at all though. But does not fight since it seems to be time to feed his cat.
Back home, the father tells Koushi that there are assassins here to kill him, in order to spark off a war in the martial arts world. We end with a shot of a pair of potential assassins.
Thoughts
I think Aya Hirano definitely sounds like herself, though obviously using another voice. In fact, I thought Sanae’s character design look a little like Aya Hirano. Sanae looks like she can fight too… from the OP.
Anyway, I’m still mesmerized by Momoko’s voice. “Koushi-dono! Koushi-dono!” done to perfection.
Anyway, we’re introduced to all the characters already, though we still don’t know the blonde hair gal’s name. It’ll be truely interesting to see how they interact in school together.
