Sumomomo Momomo - ep 01

Sumomomo Momomo - Chijou Saikyou no Yome. The Strongest Bride on Earth. Oh my. This episode turned out to be the best out of all ep 1s that I’ve seen so far. (except kanon) I wasn’t expecting anything at all, after having trouble even finding out the actual series name. With the storyline of a girl throwing herself onto a guy, where can you go wrong. Utterly hilarious.

Kuzuryuu Momoko is seen training under a waterfall, but her father points out to her that she will never be able to master the Kuzuryuu lineage’s special move simply because she’s a girl. Hence, there’s only one solution left, to marry the strongest guy and bear the strongest kid.

We cut to a scene of Inuzuka Koushi in class, a highschool student who is absolutely brilliant. Looking out of the window, he sees Momoko staring at him, but concludes that it’s impossible, since he is on the 4th floor. Going home, Momoko follows him, and is totally wowed by Koushi. This is as he accidentally saves a cat after tripping when chasing after a coin, and defeating a guy without violence after throwing at him many laws verbally.

Reaching home, we see why Momoko is after Koushi. Koushi’s basically the son of a martial arts master, but he just wants to become a law prosecutor, and has totally abadoned martial arts. Suddenly, Momoko arrives, challenging the father to a duel. The father catches Koushi sneaking after them, but simply asks him to watch the duel carefully, maybe he’ll learn something.

Momoko is swiftly defeated though. But she reveals she’s here to marry Koushi, and the first step was to challenge the father to a duel, and the father nods his approval at her actions. Seems that long ago, Momoko’s and Koushi’s dads fought, and an agreement was made for the two to marry. To koushi, arranged marriages is absurb in this modern age.

Having the dad’s approval, Momoko wastes no time in unpacking a futon (so that’s what she was carrying around) to make love to Koushi. Of course Koushi swiftly rejects her, but Momoko promises her dad to do her best.

Next morning going to school, Momoko is there waiting for Koushi. Following Koushi to school, Momoko reads loudly from a book about reproduction, totally embarassing Koushi, as well as staring at him from his classroom window again.

The afternoon follows with momoko making a bento for Koushi. Except that it’s a bento of cooked tadpole, frogs and newts. All to increase sperm production. Koushi promtly feeds it to the crows. Momoko later continues to stalk him, posing nude for him in arts class, and lying nude in bed when Koushi goes visit the school nurse.

But later in along the coridoors, 3 bullies from Koushi’s class catch him shivering instead of fighting back when one of them accidentally hits Koushi’s vital parts, and Koushi continues shivering when the school’s biggest bully Saigo walks by. As a result, the 3 target Koushi and gets him to do their homework. Momoko is puzzled, but Koushi explains it away as that it’ll help him become a prosecutor.

That night, more tricks of Momoko, as she tries to bath together with Koushi, prepare a loving bedroom, but gets kicked out of the house in the end.

Next day, momoko asks about why Koushi gave up martial arts, (she finds out from the father) but Koushi just can’t quite dig out the memory of it having to do with meeting Momoko when young.

Just then, they pass by the 3 class bullies beating someone up. Koushi wants to ignore them, brushing them aside as trivial things. But Momoko is hurt, and asks if he thinks of her as trivial to, when young when Koushi had rescued her from bullies. Koushi had looked absolutely strong and tall to Momoko then.

Even as Koushi declares himself as a coward and wimp, Momoko asks why he is squeezing his own fist, for he must be supressing himself. This inspires Koushi, who goes to the bullies and starts spouting rubbish about laws to them again. (which is just so cool to Momoko). Of course the words had no effects. Just as the bullies surround Koushi, the memories start coming back.

Even as Momoko cheers him own, he remembers hearing the same words long ago. Koushi had tried to protect momoko, but got utterly defeated and bullied. The embarrasement then had caused him to totally give up on martial arts.

Fast forward to the present, Momoko seems to totally have no impression of Koushi being defeated. Just as koushi is feeling totally doomed, he remembers that Momoko is a martial arts expert too. Throwing verbal insults at the 3 bullies, they insult Koushi back, inciting Momoko’s wrath. Of course, Momoko makes short work of them, and Koushi can’t resists giving each of them a final blow, making momoko so proud of him.

Thoughts

Firstly, I was tototally entraced by the voices.

Harima’s, from school rumble, seiyuu, Takahashi Hiroki. Nakajima Sanae is voiced by Hirano aya. Kuzuryu Momoko by kano yui who seems to be new, but sounds just absolutely cute and perfect for the role.

2ndly, the animation was totally simple, yet very cute and effective in bring across the humour. Top notch.
