Paradise Kiss - First impressions
Attending prepatory school has been a normal setting for Yukari for most of her life, respecting the wishes of her parents for a quality education. Now, as an elite high school student, she begins to doubt her route in life until she meets the members of “Parakiss”, a lively group of fashion designers.
Yukari’s asked by the members of Parakiss to model at the fashion show held at the festival of Yazawa Art School. She hesitates at the thought of becoming a model, but with her encounters with Joji, a designer who adamantly pursues his dream, she’s inspired to pursue her own route in life. Yet, as Yukari comes to know Joji through his odd lifestyle and behaviors, she finds herself strangely attached to him….
From AnimeNFO
The first thing that stands out is the animation, and it’s obviously a Shoujo anime
The first thought I had when I saw this anime was that the animation style looked VERY similarly. I would have thought that i was totally different from what I normally see, except that I just saw the same style being used in NANA. I shouldn’t have been too surprised. The reason being that the mangaka of Paradise Kiss, Yazawa Ai, is also credited with the manga Nana
There are things that I haven’t seen though, which includes using original photos as the background of the animation. That said, the anime uses a mixture of very realistic drawings (like NANA), and very simple cartoony style. (as can be seen in the third screenshot). I can’t say I particularly like it… in fact, I thought it was a little bit too extreme.
But at the end of the day, this is a fashion show anime, involving a high school kid. The fashions display are definitly very original and very good to look at. However, it’s not catching my eye yet in terms of story line, so I’m putting it aside for the time being
