Whoa, Kaoru had so much common sense in this episode that it even felt painful. Anyway, while the start of the episode some pretty repetitive jokes, it gradually got filled with many little gems that made it hilarious.

The episode starts with Kaoru mentioning about the spell of the magical carriage, the one that will turn into a pumpkin by midnight. However, as the scene turns to the classroom, Kaoru mentions that this time, the spell isn’t cast by an evil witch. (but rather, by Haruhi)

Anyway, in class, Souga Kazukiyo the class rep wants to discuss about the class event next week. Haruhi does not understand what’s going on, so the twins tell her it’s a Halloween event. In addition, Kurakano Momoka the vice class rep points out that it’s an Ouran High thing. Due to test scripts being graded, there are no lessons for a week, in addition, each class gets to hold an event, like movie screening or tea party.

Jumping out of a movie reel is Renge though, who points out that such things are insufficient. Appearing in a totally new outfit, Haruhi asks Renge where she got it from. Renge explains that she got it tailored based on leaked information on next year’s Doki Doki memorial 2 game.

Anyway, Renge explains that since things like cosplay and tea party happens everyday at the host club, they should do something new. A test of courage game! Hearing this, Souga’s temperature goes down a little. Renge goes on to explain about how they can get the school administration to keep the school open at night. Hikaru continues to suggest that whoever loses, will be declared champion of cowards, and featured on the school paper. All these while, Souga’s temperature keeps going closer to zero. So Souga asks the rest of the class if there’s anyone who would object, all the while targeting haruhi, hoping that she would object, but she doesn’t. Souga has no choice but to approve of the game.

At the hostclub, everybody is dressed up in vampires, while Tamaki is playing host to two girls. Suddenly, the twins reappear in their normal uniform, together with Haruhi. They declare that they won’t be around for the coming week, as they have to be preparing for their class event. Kyouya approves of their leave application, to Tamaki’s horror, who believes that the twins will use the chance to get close to Haruhi.

Tamaki promtly gets into his daddy role, hoping to keep haruhi. This causes Kaoru to reflect on how even as they are just a club, tamaki sees each of them as a family. Anyway, of course Haruhi disappears with the twins. Just that, with evil laughter, Nekozawa appears, talking about how he’s the expert of scaring, and that they’ll give a present to the yr ones that they’ll never forget.

Back in school, Souga calls haruhi out of the class, and confess that he has “many many phobias”. He also revealed how he had tried to get Haruhi to object to the event, but haruhi thought that class bonding would be good. Anyway, Souga wants to be on Haruhi’s team for the game, hoping that some of her calmness will rub off onto him. Too bad for him, the twins overhears all that he has said, and gleefully announces that the four of them will be in the same team.

On the night of the game, the twins start scaring Souga with tales of the clock tower witch. Haruhi questions why they are scaring their own teammate, but the twins explain that they are just bored. Haruhi barely manages to catch Souga’s spirit and stuff it back into him. Trying to comfort him, Haruhi takes out a book on 101 ways to prevent yourselves from being scared. Of course, all the methods that Haruhi reads out to him, just makes things worse.

It is then that Souga insist in going home, not caring about the consequences. But the twins reminds him that he’ll become the laughing stock of the vice class rep. Haruhi is totally suprised, saying she didn’t know that Souga likes Kurakano. Souga totally denies this, and insist that they are just childhood friends.

When Souga explains that he agreed to the game because Kurakano looked so excited about it, the twins realised that like Tamaki, Souga is one of those “pure ones”. As such, he isn’t one that can be teased. So the twins decide to help Souga out.

Just that, haruhi asks if it’s just her, or did a white sheet just float pass. At the same time, a skull falls from the stairs, scaring everyone. Thinking that it’s the work of Team A, hikaru gets pissed as it’s not time for them to get in the act of scaring people yet.He kicks the skull back up the stairs, hitting someone. That someone turns out to be a monster.

Everybody is frightened, and they split up running for their lives. Haruhi accidentally triggers a trap, which gets her and hikaru caught in a fishnet. Souga meanwhile is getting frightened by Mori and Honey in (poorly made) costumes. Just as Kaoru catches up with Souga, Nekozawa’s butler and maid pushes them into a room and traps them in there.

Meanwhile, Haruhi is about to cut herself out of the trap using a scissors from her sewing kit. Hikaru is amazed that even someone like Haruhi has a sewing kit, since she doesn’t look like she’s into those girly things. Haruhi tells hikaru that he’s very rude, while Hikaru tries to explain himself by stating that kaoru is like that too. Haruhi disagrees, saying that when he’s alone, Kaoru is very normal and sensible.

Inside the trapped room, Kaoru is lamenting that they had actually wanted to help Souga by scaring Kurakano so that Souga can comfort her. Souga thanks him for the thought, but explains that he believes that Kurakano actually likes Haruhi, and though haruhi has no feelings at the moment now, things might change later. To which Kaoru swears that it’ll never happen.

But Souga is very happy with how things are, working together as class representatives, and he doesn’t want things to change. Kaoru understands this very well, and believes that Tamaki takes on the family role, and he doesn’t want things to end. But in the end, Kaoru believes it’ll still turn into a pumpkin one day.

Just then, Hikaru comes and rescue them. Kaoru asks where Haruhi was. It is then that Hikaru realises that he left Haruhi behind. Haruhi comes running along, and blames Hikaru for being cruel, running away as soon as the net was cut open. Leaving the school, the four meet the rest of the class, who apparently have been looking all over for them. The twins blame team A for scaring them, but Team A denies doing anything. Suddenly, screams attract everybody’s attention to the roof, where a sillhoutte of a cat is seen, and everybody screams in terror.

Next day, on the School’s bulletin board, a copy of the news paper is posted, with the entire Class 1-A declared as cowards. Kurakano then reveals that she knows that Souga went ahead with the game even though he was scared. Souga apologises, but Kurakano says that her respect for Souga is even higher now.

Kaoru points out that in the end the carriage between the two won’t last forever.Kaoru thinks back about how he’s still the first one that Hikaru ran to, so the carriage won’t turn into a pumpkin so fast. But even as Kaoru makes haruhi and Hikaru walk together, and pushing them on, kaoru can’t help but wonder what it’ll be like once Hikaru decides to take things further with Haruhi.
