Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru - 06
It’s summer lessons, and to get away from attending swimming lessons, Mizuho uses menstruation as an excuse? Menstruation?? Massive potential bleeding from the nose in the changing room each time is more likely.
It’s summer! And that means swimming lessons. Mariya gets Mizuho to try on swimsuit after swimsuit to find a suitable one. But in the end, Mariya can only wear the school issued one in school. Which uh, can’t conceal his manliness. Hence the use of menstruation excuse.
But after three lessons, Mizuho’s absence is obviously noticed, especially when everybody is waiting to see him in a swimsuit. Hence a confrontation between Takako and Mizuho, with Takako accusing Mizuho of not being able to swim. Mariya jumps to her defence though, claming that Mizuho is simply just traumatised by water. At the same time, Mariya changes the topic to how Takako skipped club activities to join the student council, hence isn’t able to take hard work either, something Takako was accusing Mizuho of for not trying to swim. Thus a grudge match is conceived. Swimming competition.
Back at the dorm, Mariya reveals that Takako is actually Mizuho’s family rival. Though Takako doesn’t know it yet, but it’s probably her wild and competitive instinct at work.
In school though, Mizuho spots Takako being all tired, and asks invites her to have lunch together. Over lunch, Mizuho 100% succeeds in psychoanalysing Takako, causing much awe from Takako. However, Takako suddenly collapses from exhaustion.
Takako’s assistant then arrives and accuses Mizuho of being indecent repeatedly, before Mizuho asks her to get a wet towel for Takako instead. -_- Left alone again, Mizuho says out that she actually likes Takako.
The day of the competition finally arrives though. But arriving at the pool, they find a large crowd had gathered, and a silly water competition had been arranged instead, thanks to Kei their classmate.
No winner or loser was declared though, but even as Takako spends the summer holidays in her rich home, she gets a photo from Mizuho of everybody, and how she “supposedly” seeing Takako trying hard, is trying hard to get used to water too.
Thoughts
I’ve been away for way too long thanks to exams/projects/neverwinter nights 2. It actually feels good to blog about anime again. haha. (yes, I do like blogging episodes even though it can be a chore at times)
Oh man, this anime cheats with scene after scene of still shots. But interestingly, it doesn’t feel bad.
There were loads of comedy bits in this episode, and I do support it being more of a comedy than drama. I always like comedies better.
Somehow I think Takako carries elements of suzumiya haruhi in her. I don’t know why, just a personal opinion.
Gazing into the crystal ball, I see takako and Mizuho having a relationship. The elements needed are all there. Family rivals. “rivals” in school. What else do you need!

I agree somewhat with the Takako-Haruhi comparison. She’s really been catching my attention as I’ve mentioned a few times in my own blog posts.
