Oban Star Racers – First impressions

I kind of read great things about this anime in the newspapers. It’s an ‘anime’ produced together by a french and jap animation company.
My impression? Nothing special yet, although I guess i’ll catch it for a few more episodes before making a final conclusion. The character design is quite kiddish, as in, the target group seems quite young, for kids. THe background 3-D animation doesn’t seem special either. I think animes like Full Metal Panic do it a lot better.
Watched star wars pod races? I get the similar feel from this show thus far from ep 1 and 2.
So far, a war between earth and an alien species was halted by an ‘avatar’, who declared cease fire for 25 years, so that preparations for a galatic race can be made. Earth took no heed however, and when the day arrives, requests Don Wei, a race manager, to come up with a team in 13 hours. (mission impossible anyone?)
A girl named eva, is actually Don Wei’s daughter. However, she has been more interested in mechanical stuff, and when parts for her bike come in, runs away from school to look for her father. Her father does not recognise her though, but she becomes one of his mechanic, after fixing a race car for him. She hasn’t gotten the chance to reveal who she is though, and takes on the name molly.
The anime hints at eva’s mom being a racer, with don wei being the race manager, but she dies one day at a race. But nothing so far about how daughter and dad got seperated. Don wei’s current racer also hints that eva has great potential as a racer. Episode 1 & 2 left the current racer injured. so is eva going to take over??
Not too bad an anime… but doesn’t really match the big hoo haa i guess

Molly really should of went wit Prince Aikka, he’s sweet, cute and also SEXY!! See him wit out the shirt! I wouldn’t mind being his Princess or shall i say Queen. The Kroggs die, Im glad he’s dead.

nobody dies (except Satis and O), I watched the final episode (26) three times today and it is like this- Callileto captures Eva in temple and she opens pyramid of light for him- she finds out that he is responsible for her mothers crash, Ricks crash and that he manipulated her all a long! Best (and sadest) part is in moment when he want capture powers of Oban once again but Jordan jumps in light above pyramid which destroyes Callileto and destroyes power supplies of Crog and Earth ships, Jordan is next Avatar (with right, cuz’ he is a winner to with Eva), then he restore Oban and all get back to their homes except Jordan– who is Avy. Jordan told her that he loves her and they kissed. End is like Shaman King episodes- I am refering to that cuz’ in S.K. there isn’t (after few years) new episodes, and ends are simmiliar. It would be very very sad for Oban to stay on 26 episodes, anime is tooooooo gooooooooooooooooooooood to end like this…
I think it is a great cartoon I love it since the first moment i saw it. It really great…maybe the animation is not so cool but it has something that makes it special, unik…. has something that catch your attention and you can’t leave it. like an addiction, but a good one…jajaja…The desing of the charachters is simple but at the same time great…It a sorry that it only last 26 episodes….Long life to Oban….Prince Aika is really cute…but i can’t stop crying because of Jordan…nice guy… :’(…..

This show is cool,Jordan is a very pleasing guy…Anyway in reality there is no such thing called Oban star racing this thought makes me feel sad and depressed but watching this program makes me feel that this will take place in near future.I have proof too,Our scientists have proved that there is life in other planets and tecnology is growing at its best,So there is a chance of war between planets and this might be the only way to sort it out…So wat do u say?
Heh, I wouldn’t call any of ‘em sexy, but I’m an older fan of the show, a veteran anime guy. It was a very good show, better than most of the fluff you see these days. Many solid characters, surprisingly rough ends to more than a few characters too. I enjoyed the character designs they were refreshing. Good use of CGI too. It was fun. I felt the end was good, it was unexpected for me. I don’t think its been as popular as it should have been in the US. We have Disney to thank for that. As they banished it to the crappy ToonDisney channel. I only hope we get the DVDs here, I had to watch most of it on youtube sadly. But great to see all the fans this great show as. Take care.

Well actually,as you all mentioned a while back,A cahracter DID die besides Satise and O.IN the episode that you mentioned you thought Aika was going to die in,Caniletto showed up as a Astro-Projection,as he did with rick,but instead was actually in the NORMAL world,and not his twisted little dimension.He then after speaking with Sul in the episode “Secret like Sul”,Proceded to open a trap underneath Sul’s feet,A dimensional rip,Utterly sucking Sul into the realm known as Oblivion,or basically,the universe of no existence,ending Sul for good,and then procedeing with his plans as normal.
On another note,Aika,Kira Yamato,Edward Elric,and all other decnet anime guys are Suzaku’s bishies.
