Jin is now the vice commander of the Phantom.

The survivors of the Isshin arrive at their destination, where they meet up with survivors from Satsuma, including the Mayor Nakahira who is totally bedridden. Finally Touraji agrees to take charge of Satsuma’s remaining forces.

Elsewhere, the chief of the naval fleet (i think) goes up to the chief of defence force (i think) presenting edvidence of Drake betrayal to the Freedom states. Yet the chief of defence force offered no responses, when the chief of the naval fleet realises that Drake is in the room to. Just then, the chief of Defence force reveals that the entire defence force is now under the jurisdiction of the Freedom states.

That night, Sana and Jo meet on a beach. Approaching Jo, Sana reveals that she wants to meet Jin. Not that she’s obsessed, but she wants to hear what the truth is from Jin himself. And about what she contains. Of course Jo agrees, and they approach Touraji. Touraji recognises that it would be pointless for him to refuse, and offers him a combat craft.

bscap00481.jpgbscap00491.jpgbscap00532.jpgbscap00572.jpgbscap00581.jpgbscap00612.jpg

Back in the phatom lab, the phatom forces are placed on alert. Steves checks his gladiator over by himself, when qing lang appears. Qing lang asks why he’s doing something that he could ask the mechanics to do instead. Is he afraid of what happened to riki? Asking if steve thinks that the wakou are still alive, Qing lang whips out a card predicting steve’s death.

bscap00631.jpgbscap00641.jpg

Arriving at the phatom lab, Jo finds his own gladiator and Jin waiting for him. With a snap of Jin’s fingers, 3 phantom gladiators appear. Of course Jin isn’t going to follow Jo to see Sana. Of course the only option left to Jo is to get into his own gladiator. A fight soon breaks out.

bscap00672.jpgbscap00681.jpgbscap00712.jpg

Kyuoshiro’s thirst for blood actually saves Jo, as he lunges ahead into a knife fight with Jo, preventing the rest from firing. Just then, Jin orders the scientists to remove the limiter in Jo’s gladiator, causing him intense pain, similar to what Riki went through.

bscap00721.jpgbscap00752.jpgbscap00762.jpg

However, Jo’s desire to help Sana seems to have reached the kid’s nervous system in his gladiator, and somehow he synchronises with them, achieving extreme performance. And i mean extreme.

bscap00791.jpgbscap00821.jpgbscap00831.jpg

Soon all 3 phatom gladiators are taken out of combat, and Jo grabs Jin. Just then, Kyuoshiro charges at Jin, but is surprisingly stopped and stabbed by Steve. Steves asks that Jo get the truth out of Jin. Soldiers arrive, firing darts at Steve’s gladiator, effectively killing him, but Jo gets away.

Back at the lab, Drake arrives, pointing a pistol at Qinglang. But ends up shooting steve’s gladiator. Asked where Jin is, Qinglang whips out a tracking device.

bscap00902.jpgbscap00911.jpgbscap00922.jpg

In the jungle, Jin pretends to reveal the truth to Sana, knowing well that the phantom forces are on their way.

Thoughts
Hmm…. Jo now doesn’t cry anymore after synchronisation. Jin didn’t have any emotions previously…. any link?

Nah… I think Jin is still outright evil.

Although it makes you wonder why Jin had to leave the phatom in the first place.

Uh… did i miss it? when was the freedom states mentioned previously? Who are they. Ah wellz… yet more intrigue!

Don’t think Jin is evil…rather, he’s outright insane. My pet theory is that whatever the “horrible truth” about Sana, the children, and the Gladiators cracked him mentally. (For example, if the children used to make the Gladiators turned out to be their clones…I know *I* would go apesh** if it were me.) He probably internalised his reaction to piloting the Gladiators, which in turn didn’t help his mental state of mind by any means. In the one glimpse we saw of Jin piloting his Gladiator, he seemed more grim than a simple battle expression: it looked more as if he was teetering on the edge of psychopathy.

I get the impression that his betrayal and return to Phantom were to put as much distance between himself and Jo and Sana (even incur their hatred so that they would never want to even see him again, much less talk to him) so that they would remain in blissful ignorance. I think in his own twisted way, Jin is still protecting them (in his own mind, anyway) by trying to shock/frighten them. Distancing himself from Jo and Sana and making them hate him failed to keep them from seeking answers from him, so he used his insanity and the shock tactic instead. Of course, it didn’t work. (There wouldn’t be much of a story if Jo and Sana simply gave up)

I could be overthinking/overanalysing, but too much in the story doesn’t make a whole lot of sense otherwise. For example, why didn’t Jin kill Jo when he had the chance? (If he’d wanted to test him as he did in 10, why didn’t he simply detain Jo rather than stab him in a non-vital area and walk away?) What about his resentment of Logos? (Even the possibility of a coup attempt by Phantom — headed by Drake — makes little to no sense considering that Jin seemed to resent ALL of it in earlier episodes.)

    Heh. thanks for the comment.

I’ve avoided trying to speculate, as there smees to be too many blanks in the story to me. (as you have pointed out)

His actions do seem pretty insane as a whole, yet the plans he come up with are pretty logical.

It’ll be interesting to see where the anime brings it from here.

Oh, and I forgot to add that there is a 98% chance that Jin will be dead by the end of the series.

The phantom are cool in their own insane whacked out way,but they are killing ‘em all off.
    Bah!
All the bad guys always hafta die!
And somehow I like the crazy bastards of Phantom better than insane-o Jin?
I hate him cause he’s evil, but like the phantom?
    I contradict myself too much.
But I have to admit,I freaked out when Drake pulled that pistol on Qing Lang.
Seriously freaked out.(Almost as much as Qing Lang himself.)
And was relived when he didn’t get shot.
But how can someone recover from thinking that they were gonna be shot so fast?
One second he was in shock, another he was pulling out a tracker device wholeheartedly.
    Ehhh,I’m thinking too much.
Also I would like to note that I’m madly in love with Sana’s hair.
    It’s so pretty!
    And she’s so cute!
    Thanks for the review!
